Presenting new work at Dance Downtown 2014

This weekend my new work "The Name of The Game" is premiering at the Capital Theater downtown Columbus, OH. The idea that sparked the nexus of this work was a curiosity towards the physicality and vocal expression found in outdoors games from the 1940-70s. Working closely with my cast of twelve OSU dance majors, we spend eight weeks venturing into a world were playfulness and openness to the present moment took precedence. This allowed us to shape an "everyday" playful activity into an intricate contemporary movement vocabulary. Including spoken words / singing was a new process for me and a challenge - especially when it came to tailoring transitions from the dancers speaking to recorded music. Overall, I am very pleased with the process and the final work which I have to dedicate to my cast of purely amazing performers.
