Presenting at NDEO Fall 2023 Conference
I am excited for this opportunity to share insights from a yearlong inquiry into my assessment practice in contemporary dance technique college level. Central was an examination of potential harmful or outdated structures of authority embedded my assessment practice and a reexamination of individual and shared responsibilities as teacher and student. The goal was to make the assessment process more transparent to the students while foregrounding the responsibility of learning as a jointly effort with the student as a participatory agent of progress. My revised strategy of implementing assessment tools that requires students’ involvement in the evaluation process, sought to aid students understand that the learner-role entails setting direction for their growth and adapt as circumstances require.
